THE NORMAN STAIRCASE

The Norman Staircase stands in the grounds of the King's School and to the right of the picture the damage that was done to part of their buildings can be clearly seen. The Norman Staircase received superficial damage from flying debris and has since been restored.

There was extensive damage to buildings in The Green Court area of the King's School and even The "Red" Dean, Dr. Hewlett Johnson, became "homeless" as a result of the Deanery being hit. A rather nice story is that despite his own difficulties, The Dean gave a local barber one of his razors so that the man could carry on his daily business.
