Upper Hardres suddenly appears on a bend in the road and is then gone again. A very small village and consisting of a few cottages, the Church and Upper Hardres Court. The entrance to Upper Hardres Court has a huge barn by the side of it which seems to need more and more repairs over the years. For some reason, the cry of peacocks, which have been here since I can remember, do not seem out of place. The owner of The Court in the time of Henry VIII apparently return to Upper Hardres after a successful seige with the gates of Boulogne which he then mounted in the entrance to the grounds. Well, I suppose it beats a stick of rock or a piece of cheap pottery with "a present from Boulogne on it"!
