The Sun Hotel, Sun Street.

The Sun Hotel survived the bombs of the Second World War and still stands in Sun Street, just to the North of the Christ Church Gate entrance to the Cathedral. It is supposedly the Hotel where Mr. Micawber took rooms when he met David Copperfield again in Canterbury in the Dicken's classic. The majority of the book was written at Fort House in nearby Broadstairs. The Collyers (also spelt Colyer) are part of my family tree although I do not know, as yet, which individual was involved with the business shown on the side of the building. They originally came from Barham and married into the File family who farmed at Barham Court Farm at the turn of the 19th Century.
