SNAVE -
St. Augustine's
Church

I had a little difficulty finding this Church as it is tucked away some distance from the road (although it might have helped if I'd remembered my maps!). This is a lovely little Church which is no longer used for regular worship and is formally classified as "redundant". It is reached through two five-bar gates separated by a long grassy walk. I believe that this walk is also full of daffodils in the Spring which must add to this most attractive approach.

The picture on the left shows a chimney which is more than likely connected to the stove which was used when the Church was used as a school for the local children. The grass around most of the Church was long although there was evidence that sheep had been left to graze part of the churchyard around the porch area. There were also some bunches of flowers left by some of the most recent interments which obviously means that the little Church is still regularly visited. There were repairs made the tower in 1985 and the funding for the upkeep of the building there days is undertaken by the Romney Marsh Historic Churches Trust.
