The Pulpit in the Nave

The Pulpit

The pulpit in the nave is actually a fairly recent addition to the Cathedral having been built in 1898 in the Gothic Perpendicular style. To my mind, it is a little too ornate for the Nave but that's just my opinion. It was designed by George Bodley in remembrance of Dr Robert Payne-Smith who was Dean between 1871 and 1895. On either side of the stairway are the carved figures of St. Augustine and St. Gregory.
