The Bull Inn, Sissinghurst.

The building is a mixture of architecture and is said to originally date from the fouteenth century. It has a priest's hole and dungeons which were probably used at a later date by smugglers and most likely by the notorious Hawkhurst Gang who roamed this area.
On the main road through Sissinghurst lies The Bull Inn. It now has a lovely picture of a Hereford Bull for its sign which is quite pleasing. It is actually more like a "Sidney Cooper" than the previous sign used by Whitbreads. However, the Whitbread's sign which is shown in the picture on the left, was originally chosen as the sign for the Inn by the author Jeffrey Farnol who made this pub famous in his novel "The Broad Highway". The sign was a reproduction of an earlier sign that was centuries old.
