The Carpenters' Arms, Black Griffin Lane, Canterbury

For any genealogists that might be looking for background about this pub, or The Carpenters' Arms, the story is a little confusing. This is because "The Three Compasses", which is in the main street of St. Peter's in Canterbury had a similar pub sign at one time, was called The Carpenters' Arms back in the 17th Century. To further confuse the issue, in the 19th Century there was a pub in the area of the present Carpenters' Arms in Black Griffin Lane but I do not know what it was called.
This is a fairly recent addition to the pubs in Canterbury because despite the "mock tudor" frontage, it was actually built early in the 20th Century. It adheres to the tradition of the way that pubs were named in that many of them were identified with traditional crafts or guilds.
