The Church of St. Mary the Virgin lies some way off the main Stone Street road to Hythe. Take the lane opposite the War Memorial which passes cottages and one farm and its buildings to bring you to this rather tiny Church.
St. Mary the Virgin Church,
Nackington - Tower and Steeple
© P. Blanche 1998As can be seen from the picture on the left, the Church has a rather strange layout with its small tower and very small steeple offset from half of the width of the Norman nave. The building was once in a terrible state of repair but has been lovingly restored by local people and the rood screen bears the name of ten of the individuals that helped to carve it. Like so many other local churches I was unable to get inside on the day that I visited but hope to do so some time in the near future.
The Churchyard does not contain a large number of headstones but even though it is very close to Canterbury, the Church services a fairly sparse rural community with other parish churches in fairly close proximity.
