Ebenezer Curling Lucey was born 1834 and baptised at St. John's, Horsely Downs, London. He died 1896. He married Sarah Ann Andrews, the youngest daughter of Cyrus Andrews of Alverton Grange, Notts.
Ebenezer & Sarah had 3 children
1. Florence Catherine Hannah 1860 - 1888 at Dymchurch.
Later to become Mrs. Frederick Hill. They had one son..
2. Helen Mary 1860 - 1888 at Biddenden
3. Algernon Charles 1863 - 1934 at Biddenden. He married Beatrice Mason and they had one daughter Agatha Hope born at Emmanuel College, Camberwell in 1896 and died 1970.
Sadly Beatrice died in childbirth and Algernon did not remarry.
Agatha married 1st. James Ian Sydney Thorpe in 1930 at Parish Church, Fittleworth.. James died in a motor accident in 1939.
Her 2nd marriage was to Alex Houison-Crauford of Fittleworth.
Algernon was the Rector of Fittleworth from 1920 - 37.
Ebenezer Lucey was Curate in charge of Dymchurch 1858 - 1860, Biddenden 1860 - 1866. Vicar of St. Margaret's at Cliffe 1866 - 1885.
He was the Rural Dean of North Lympne in 1891.
There is a brass plaque in the church at Mersham which reads;
"To The glory of God and in affectionate remembrance of the Rev. Ebenezer C. Lucey on his preferment to the rectory of Mersham in this County after 19 years faithful ministry at St. Margaret's and West Cliffe. The window in the tower of this church was dedicated by his grateful parishioners." (The window mentioned has been moved to the chancel, where it is in full view.)
There is also a brass wall tablet dedicated to his daughter Helen Mary. "To the Glory of God. In memory of Helen Mary Lucey who fell asleep Feb. 2nd 1888. Requiescat in pace,"
