To my mind the South African War Memorial is one of the gems in this Church. The names are listed in order of the date that they died and it is particularly interesting to note the ratio of those who died from fever as against those who were killed. For genealogists it gives the cause and date of death together with the detail of the Regiment in which the individual served. The wording is as follows:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF
THE OFFICERS AND MEN CONNECTED WITH THIS

THE CALL OF DUTY LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR SOVEREIGN

It is not too often that I am impressed by modern glass in churches but in this case, I think that the two windows shown below are very significant for this particular church and for the Town of Dover with its connections with the sea. As time passes and as memories fade they will represent the history of the Town and remind visitors to the Church of its close connections to the events depicted in the same way that older glass in other churches has done.

Memorial to Peter Eaton, Dover, Kent.

There are not a large number of memorials in this Church given its age and this may also be as a result of the Puckle restoration. Most of them are located at the West end of the Church near the South and North entrances where there did seem to be some effort made to retain some of the previous fabric.

The memorial to the left is particularly impressive because of its size which must be somewhere near six foot high and must have been extemely expensive to commission. The inscription states that it is,
"Sacred to the Memory of PETER EATON Esq. ..................He being the last Male Issue of his Family Departed this Life after a long and painful Illness..........The 31 day of January 1769 in the 49th year of his Age. He Zealous in GOD and benevolent in MAN. Reader let His Character be Thine."
It goes on to say,
"Mrs. HANNAH MARKLAND, His Cousin and Heir In Testimony of Her Regard to His Memory And the Rest of The EATON Family From whom She is Descended Caused this Monument to be Erected".
