"DAY OF SYN"
DYMCHURCH
AUGUST 31,1998

There was something highly suspicious about the organisation of the venues for The Day of Syn. Three enactments in the morning took place at "The Ship Inn", "The City of London" and "The Ocean Inn" - all public houses!

A smuggler having been apprehended by the Army has been put on trial. After little deliberation, he is sentenced to death by hanging, the location for which is the rear of "The City of London".

Unfortunately, I missed the next picture at "The City of London" where the crowd was large and The Scarecrow appeared so suddenly to rescue the smuggler from the gallows that I was rather caught by surprise. At the time, the public house is the headquarters of The Nightriders Motorcycle Club, who, as well as having some very impressive motorbikes, are well known in this area for their kind work for children's charities. Many of them are actively involved in the work for this day in Dymchurch. My son, also being a lover of motorbikes, remarked that this was the first "pub" that he'd seen that displayed a sign that it was "Biker Friendly".

After a further act to the drama in the car park at the side of "The Ocean Inn". many of the players and followers paused for a while to settle the dust with a pint or two of ale. Here The Scarecrow discusses the days events with another smuggler and a Naval Officer.

Finally the whole drama shifts to
The Beach
