The South West
Transept

The South West Transept is a 15th Century renovation which was completed during the time of Prior William Molashe (d. 1437).

On the Eastern side of the Transept from North to South is the steps up to the Choir Transept, the steps down to The Crypt and then the entrance to the Warrior's Chapel. There is a door out to the Precincts on the South Wall over which is a huge stained glass window which can be seen in the picture above. The size of the window is equivalent to a tennis court if it were lain flat on the ground. The window contains many individual important works which were grouped together from other areas of the Cathedral in 1793. I will try to provide more "close-up" detail at a later date. The oldest figures in this window date from 1178 while the most recent are 15th Century, much of which is representative of foliage and was originally in various windows in the Nave.

To the West is another large window contains work by Christopher Whall and was inserted at the beginning of the 20th Century.
